Last week, Japan unveiled its new defense policy, which aims to significantly increase its military capabilities over the next five years, including the ability to strike back, in response to threats from two nuclear powers, China and North Korea.

“Japan is creating a serious security crisis (…) by adopting a new security strategy that effectively formalizes the possession of pre-emptive strike capabilities against other countries,” North Korea’s foreign ministry spokesman said in a statement.

“The establishment of Japan’s new line of aggression has fundamentally changed the security environment in East Asia,” the official KCNA news agency said in a statement.

Tokyo will understand that “this choice (is) very dangerous and bad,” the spokesman also said, warning that Pyongyang “will continue to show the extent of its concern and displeasure with concrete actions.”

Japan’s new strategic document warns that Moscow’s military posture in Asia and its cooperation with China pose “strong security concerns”.

The White House said this new strategy would “strengthen and modernize” Japan’s military alliance with the United States. (Source Agerpres)
