A baby was killed when a refugee boat ran aground on a rocky shore south of Lesbos early yesterday morning in the Fara area.
A strong south wind was blowing on the island, and, according to the baby’s father, the boat ran aground and, trying to get ashore, the child fell into the sea.
The refugees climbed to a higher point in the area and at noon the authorities of the port of Mytilene were notified and an ambulance from the Plomari hospital took the child away where it was found that he was dead. The baby was taken to the Bostanio hospital for an autopsy.
According to ERT, 34 people, mostly of African descent, were on board the boat and they were taken to the Kara-Tepe police station.
