The former president of Romania, Emil Constantinescu, emphasized that the return to the monarchy is possible only through a referendum or a change of the constitution, and if he was an “unprincipled scoundrel”, he would have achieved this referendum, and the idea of ​​the monarchy would have been compromised.

According to Constantinescu, supporters of the monarchy had “a maximum of 7%”.

Asked on Saturday on Prima TV’s Insider Politic show whether he could have done more for the idea of ​​a monarchy during his mandate as president of Romania, Emil Constantinescu said he had decided to have King Mihai come to the country. .

“The return to the monarchy could be carried out through a referendum and through the Constitution. And at the moment when I was president and indeed, I brought King Mihai into the country with my decision, which had an exceptional impact on Romania’s image and integration into NATO and the EU, frankly speaking, with the help of constitutional monarchies, which we had a maximum of 7 percent” , Constantinescu said.

The ex-head of state added that if he was unscrupulous, he would have achieved a referendum on this issue.
