Andriy Angel missed out on qualifying for Thursday’s 50m backstroke final at the World Short Course Championships (25m) in Melbourne after being disqualified.
Angel, who is trained by Marius Grigore, clocked the second semi-final with a time of 23 seconds 24/100, a result that would not have qualified him for the final anyway, according to Agerpres.
It should be noted that the athlete registered at CSM Bucharest was registered, also on Thursday, in the test series with 23 seconds 12/100, the seventh time. The final will be held on Friday at 11:12 Romanian time.
Also on Thursday, David Popovici finished fourth in the 100-meter freestyle final with a time of 45 seconds 64/100, a new junior world record as well as a new senior national record.
