Grant Wahl died while reporting on the quarter-final match between Argentina and the Netherlands at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Five days later, the wife of the famous American journalist announced the cause of death.

At the age of 48, Wahl passed out while reporting from the final tournament. As the New York Times reports, doctors resuscitated the American for more than 20 minutes right in the stands of the Lusail Iconic Stadium. Unfortunately, everything was in vain.

Grant Wahl died of an aortic aneurysm

Celine Gounder, a famous American infectious disease doctor, said that her husband died of an aortic aneurysm — a rupture of the wall of the ascending aorta.
