The Hellenic American Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with its Cultural Committee, is taking over, at the suggestion of the Hellenic Cultural Foundation, the organization of the American Pavilion and its program at the 19th Thessaloniki International Book Fair, which will be held from 4 to 7 with honors in American Literature. Through the invitation of authors, publishers and literary and cultural figures, the homage to American literature will be aimed at drawing attention to contemporary literary creativity and the publishing market in the United States – the organizers of the Collective Initiative have already responded positively to the appropriate approach of the USA Stand (collective stand of American publishers ) to attract book professionals to Thessaloniki. A tribute to American literature will be accompanied by a variety of cultural events, and more details await on the rest of the DEBTH 19 program.
Institution … issued
With a history that began in 1993 and currently has 25 events, Art Athina has created a commemorative album entitled “Art Athina 1993-2022” published by the Panhellenic Association of Art Galleries. On 360 pages of the volume, the largest domestic visual institution traces its course and “guides” the reader through each section-year thanks to the original material of each organization (catalogues, posters, information brochures, press releases, etc.). Illustrative photographic material conveys the atmosphere of that time, a selection of publications from the daily and periodical press captures the imprint of each event, which is also framed by a chronology with important events of Greek and international modernity. The editor of the album is journalist Yiannis Asdrachas.
Dole leaves Penguin
The departure of Marcus Dole from the post of CEO of Penguin Random House was announced a few days ago by the German group Bertelsmann, which owns the American publishing house. Dole, who also stepped down from his seat on the Bertelsmann Group board of directors, oversaw talks to buy Simon & Schuster from Penguin for about $2.2 billion, but he recently suspended a U.S. federal court on the grounds that it would harm international competition.
