Over 100,000 ordinary people, as well as hundreds of companies, have saved the lives of hopeless children over time. Whether they donated €1 via SMS, €185,000 via sponsorship or income tax remittance, the donations worked wonders!
Nicoleta is a teenager full of energy, passionate about skating, but above all she is concerned about the well-being of those around her. At the age of 15, he decided that he wanted to become an oncologist. This year, he entered Botoshan High School of Health, and his journey is just beginning. None of this would be possible without LIFE-GIVING DONATIONS. Four years ago, Nicoletta was given a cruel diagnosis: bladder cancer, and her life plans seemed to stop there.
“I felt that the earth swallowed me up! I was in a hopeless situation. But with the help of the Save the Heart Association, we managed to get treatment in Turkey, although we still did not have the money needed for the emergency procedures that Nicoleta needed. Vlad Placinte practically guaranteed my child, he promised the hospital management that he would collect, through a humanitarian campaign, the 123,000 euros needed to start treatment so that my daughter, who was only 11 years old at the time, would have a chance to live. If people had not donated, Nicoleta would not be with me today. A donation, no matter how small, means a lot to the person concerned. A little goes a long way. Donation means life,” Paula Borhan, Nicoleta’s mother, told us.
By the end of the treatment, costs had tripled, but the life-saving therapy continued thanks to ordinary people and companies choosing to make monthly donations to the Save the Heart Association or divert income tax/profits to humanitarian causes.
“Everything is transparent. Each donor can see himself on the website, see how much he donated and where his money went. I want to tell you that in the case of Nicoleta, even relatives, classmates, close friends or just acquaintances who wanted to help did not give us money, but donated everything through the association.
Also, in borderline situations like the one we’ve been through, there are times when you can’t handle the emotional and administrative issues, and you can’t handle fundraising personally—not to mention you don’t know how what to do, who to call, how to be. We have had the support of the association from the beginning until now. The association started a campaign, collected money, made payments. And when I say transparency, I don’t just mean trusting Save a Heart, but trusting us as a family.
For our part, we were transparent, that is, we regularly posted information about our child’s health, which treatments she received, and how much each of them cost. On Nicoleta’s quieter days, we would upload photos and sometimes videos about what was happening to us on the website or on social media. Sometimes it’s hard to show your suffering in front of people, but since they gave you a small amount of money, we felt it was our duty to show them how we spent it,” Paula Borjan, Nicoleta’s mother, told us.
What do you choose to do with income/income tax? Do you leave it to the state or do you save a child’s life?
Eduard was only 3 years old when he was diagnosed with neuroblastoma. Doctors found a 15 cm tumor on one of the kidneys. After several sessions of chemotherapy, the size of the tumor decreased, but neither the doctors from Tirgu Mures, where the little boy’s family lives, nor the doctors from Cluj took the risk of surgery. A clinic in France expressed willingness to accept and treat Edouard, but the costs were enormous: 350,000 euros.
“When we found out that our child’s life depended on such a large amount of money, we felt completely helpless and a sense of deep disappointment came over us. Where to collect so much money? It was beyond our strength. But it was necessary to mobilize quickly, because there was no time to lose. We asked for help from Mr. Vlad Placinte, whose charity I knew about online, and the “Save the Heart” Association was close to our family in the most difficult moments. Without the help of ordinary people and without the donations of companies affected by the pain our child is going through, Eduard would not be with us today.”
Save a Heart is a community with one goal: LIFE!
“It was a very difficult time! A year and 7 months, during which he went through difficult treatments, then their side effects, operations. A year and 7 months, during which the hospital was his home and the medical team was his safety shield, but together we won. It’s a great feeling knowing you can help save a life. When you know that you can give hope to people who see no way out. After the experience we gained, we also became more actively involved in supporting the Save the Heart Association through financial and moral assistance,” Raluca Oprea, Eduard’s mother, told us.
Thanks to DONATIONS THAT GIVE BACK LIVES, this year Edward will spend Christmas at home with his parents and a sister who will be born in about two weeks.
500,000 euros is the price of a baby’s life of only one and a half years
This is the dramatic story of the Barlea family from Cluj. Instead of rejoicing at the arrival of their first child, Andrea and Stefan began a race against the clock for the life of little Fabian, who was diagnosed with grade 4 neuroblastoma, the most aggressive form of the disease, with bone metastases in the spine and skull. . Chemotherapy sessions, stem cell transplantation, two operations, radiation and immunotherapy followed. Extremely expensive operations and procedures performed in a hospital in France. Nothing would be possible without LIFE-GIVING DONATIONS.
“This entire campaign was the result of a united effort, incredible coordination by family, friends, Save a Heart and thousands of people who don’t even know us personally. People’s participation was of great importance. We saw unity, solidarity, which was incredible and a little shocking for us. I saw that people can be really good and united. We have no words to thank everyone who contributed financially, with advice and kind words, from those who handled the fundraising campaign, managed social media and media communications, to neighbors, friends, former students from high school, college, work colleagues, close or more distant relatives. Donations saved Fabian. We didn’t have the opportunity to pay all the expenses ourselves,” Stefan Barlea told us.
In the end, Fabian’s account collected even more money than the little one needs for treatment. The parents decided that the money would be kept until the baby was deemed completely out of danger, and then the entire amount would be given to other children under the care of the “Save the Heart” Association.
“Do you want to join the people who help, but you have a headache from bureaucracy or lack of time? Everything is automated on the website of the Save a Heart association. Do you have an SRL or PFA? You can do good without taking a penny out of your pocket. 20% of profits or income tax can be redirected to Save a Heart. What do you decide to do with the tax you have to pay anyway? Do you leave it to the state or do you save a child’s life? Over time, we have saved the lives of over 850 babies thanks to over 100,000 people and businesses who understood that any amount donated can make a life-or-death difference. Together we raised more than 16,000,000 euros, money that went to clinics and hospitals in the country and abroad, where children were operated on and received treatment and recovery to a high standard. Every donation made a difference, whether it was €2 via SMS, €5,000 via card or over €185,000 via sponsorship. You shouldn’t believe us! See for yourself! Go to the website www.salveazaoinima.ro, search for details about us in thousands of media appearances and donate to any cause we are involved in” – Vlad Placinte, President of the Save a Heart Association.
