Russian Security Council Vice President Dmitry Medvedev said his country would increase production of “the most powerful weapons” to “defend itself against enemies in Europe, the United States and Australia,” Reuters reported.
- “We are increasing the production of the most powerful means of destruction. Including on new principles,” Medvedev wrote in Telegram.
The former president of Russia spoke again about Moscow’s “enemies” in Europe, the United States, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and “other places that have sworn allegiance to the Nazis.”
Medvedev did not provide details about the weapon, so it is unclear whether he was bluffing or whether the information was true. After the start of the war in Ukraine on February 24, Dmitry Medvedev became one of the most aggressive Russian officials, repeatedly threatening that Russia would use nuclear weapons in the conflict.
“Russia would be torn apart if there were no nuclear weapons”
A few days ago, Dmitry Medvedev said that if it did not have a nuclear arsenal, Russia would be torn apart:
- “If it weren’t for the strategic nuclear arsenal, we would have been torn apart. A huge country, a rich country, and everyone looks and thinks how to take something in their hands or divide it into parts, and then quietly put it in their pocket.
- And although it sounds harsh, it strongly discourages hotheads, especially in unfriendly alliances, from making anti-Russian decisions. So it was, so it is and so it will be.”
He also stated that Russia has “enough weapons of all types”
Threats to NATO countries
After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Medvedev issued a series of threats against the West and NATO. He recently threatened that NATO could become a “legitimate target” if it supplied Ukraine with Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems: “If, as Jens Stoltenberg hinted, NATO supplies the fanatics in Kyiv with the Patriot defense system, as well as Alliance personnel, they will immediately become legitimate targets for of our armed forces”.
