At least 24 Iranians could be executed for taking part in protests critical of the government, according to information published on Saturday in an Iranian daily newspaper, citing DPA. On Thursday, Iran executed the first person on the list of people who allegedly violated the laws of Islam.

The daily Etemad published a list drawn up by judicial authorities accusing 25 demonstrators of “waging war against God”, which carries the death penalty under Islamic law.

Rapper Mohsen Shekari, who was also on the list, was executed on Thursday on charges of assaulting a security guard with a gun, inciting terror and blocking a road.

The judiciary announced the next executions.

However, the moderate daily Etemad is calling on the judiciary to review the death sentences and avoid further executions.

Shekari’s execution drew strong condemnation at home and abroad. However, Iranian political leaders, including President Ibrahim Raisi, described the execution as a legitimate response to nationwide unrest.

“Wait for our revenge”

Protesters threatened revenge, and the message “Wait for our revenge” was spread on social networks.

Meanwhile, Iranians abroad plan to hold a series of protest rallies over the weekend.

The impetus for the protests was the death of Iranian Kurd Mahsa Amini on September 16. She died after being arrested for violating the Islamic dress code.

In addition to international sanctions related to the nuclear dispute, Tehran is now also subject to sanctions for human rights violations. (Source Agerpres) (photo source, article Dreamstime.com)
