European Union countries will add another 2 billion euros to the fund used to pay military aid to Ukraine, two diplomats told Reuters on Thursday.
EU states used the European Instrument for Peace (IEP) to buy arms and military equipment for Kyiv, but it has been largely depleted after nearly nine months of war in Ukraine, Agerpres notes.
In mid-November, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, asked member states to complete the creation of the fund by the end of the year.
Created in 2021 with the initial aim of funding, for example, military procurement to support countries in Africa, the IEP has been endowed with €5.7 billion until 2027.
In total, the EU and its member states have so far provided Ukraine with arms and military equipment worth at least 8 billion euros, Borel said in November.
