Hyundai Motor is celebrating another milestone at the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech (HMMC) plant in Nošovice, Czech Republic with the launch of the Tucson N Line with serial number 4,000,000.
Despite the pandemic, global supply chain issues and other external factors, HMMC manages to maintain a high production rate. More than 321,000 vehicles are expected to be produced this year, surpassing the “pre-pandemic” 2019.
The production of 4,000,000 Hyundai vehicles at HMMC reflects the current trend towards electrification. If until 2019 the plant produced exclusively models with internal combustion engines, then in early 2020 it began production of the Hyundai Kona Electric, which became the first mass-produced electric vehicle (EV). In autumn 2020, the production of hybrid (HEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles with the fourth generation TUCSON began in Nošovice.
At the same time, the share of vehicles with diesel engines has declined in recent years: these models account for only 9% of vehicles produced at the GMMK this year, while electric vehicles (EV), including hybrids (HEV) and plug-in hybrids. (PHEV) accounts for nearly 40% of HMMC’s production this year and will continue to grow in the coming years.
Nošovice has produced more TUCSONs than any other Hyundai model, accounting for over 70% of production since the plant opened in 2008. The i30 range, available in hatchback, station wagon and fastback body styles, accounts for approximately 17% of HMMC’s total production . production, while KONA Electric accounts for 10% of production. Available in both hatchback and fastback body styles, the award-winning i30 N complements HMMC’s production capabilities.
