The Paris Event Center, located in the northeast of the French capital, has 200-250 beds, but the center accommodates an average of 120-130 people per night, according to data provided to the court by Ile-de-France. Prefecture, quoted by News .ro.

At a hearing on Friday, Médecins du monde and Utopia 56 asked a judge to force the Ile-de-France prefecture to accept other homeless people in the beds that remain empty at the center.

“The request submitted by the associations “Doctors of the World” and “Utopia 56″ is rejected,” the judge’s decision reads.

It’s an “absurd decision that obviously outrages us immensely,” MdM head of migration Paul Alaouzi told AFP.

“Costs with justice” EUR 800

“This decision recognizes the availability of free places, recognizes the shortcomings (of the call service) 115 and recognizes the vulnerability of people sleeping rough,” he condemned, assessing that admission to free places was “a problem of common sense”. .

The judge justifies his decision by the fact that the device for receiving Ukrainian refugees is “specially of such a nature as not to saturate ordinary emergency reception devices.”

“Furthermore, it is consistent with the need to be able to continue to provide at all times the immediate admission of persons targeted by this exceptional device who are ineligible for common law remedies,” the judge said in the ruling. .

“It follows that, by reserving these reception rooms (…) exclusively for Ukrainian displaced persons, the prefect of the Ile-de-France region and the prefect of Paris cannot be accused of failing to fulfill their obligations towards other population groups. probably wins admission in an emergency situation,” he concludes.

MdM and Utopia 56 are ordered to pay the state 800 euros in court costs.

“800 euros is 800 survival blankets, that means 40 tents,” Paul Alauzi expresses his emotions.

Both associations intend to appeal to the State Council, he said. (News.ro.)
