This week, the Wolff Platform space becomes a meeting place for those who admire art at the interface with new technological tools. IQOS, a partner of the NOVA festival, presents a series of performances by Romanian and foreign artists from today until December 8, inclusive. They explore the realms of music, dance and light and take place in a context where innovation plays a key role.

Thus, one of the Wolff Platform rooms will become a place of experimentation and artistic exploration, where two special installations will create a new experience for participants. For 4 days, the installations will remain installed in this space and will become the basis for performances with the support of artists: Judith State and Radu Dumitriou, Alexandros Raptis and Andriy Kozlak, Bohdan Moroshana (Rockabella), Felix Deufel and Nikhil Nagaraj.

For this project, IQOS and NOVA invited the ZiMMT art center from Germany, one of the most prolific centers in the world studying experiences created with sound, to bring the installation to Romania ZiMMT 3D Sound Lab. To enhance its effect, as well as enhance the experience offered to community members and the general public, the organizers also invited Romanian artists Alexandros Raptis and Andriy Kozlak to install the reactive light installation WONDER in the same space.

ZiMMT 3D Sound Lab is one of the few 3D sound installations in the world, consisting of an array of over twenty connected speakers designed to create a highly realistic experience that surpasses a surround sound system. Thanks to the innovation it brings, the installation presents a challenge, especially for sound engineers, artists, instrumentalists and those who like to experiment with sound.

The aim of this approach is to combine two innovative projects and make them accessible to artists who will test them in the presence of the public, both with the register of sound and light, and from the point of view of their use as part of the scenography of the special. In each performance, regardless of the method of communication, the themes are about the intimacy between us, our presence in the community, intimacy with ourselves and those around us.

MIRACLE – Alexandros Raptis and Andriy Kozlak

The two artists are opening a series of events tonight at the Wolff Platform, during which they will present the light installation WONDER together with the sound installation. Alexandros Raptis is an artist who is passionate about theater direction, light design and music composition, and Andriy Kozlats is an experimental video artist. They created the WONDER installation, where light and sound interact, creating spatio-temporal events that ignite the imagination of the participants and direct them to form their own inner narrative thread.

For this opening event of the IQOS experience at NOVA, two artists have prepared a special 3D music that will illuminate both sound and light installations. Thus, those present at the Wolff Platform will be able to enjoy a multimedia show that combines technological innovation and art.

JUDITH STATE AND RADU DUMITRIOU – a show that invites self-discovery

Judith State and Radu Dumitriu, an exceptional duo well known in the Romanian art scene, will collaborate again, this time in a show that enriches with dance and music the scenography created by two installations – ZiMMT 3D Sound Lab and WONDER.

Inspired by the architecture and aesthetics of the space, the mutual interaction, and the encounter with the audience and its energy, the two performers will compose musical, choreographic and vocal scores in real time, starting from the themes that are at the heart of their works. research over the past four years: memory, the passage of time, and how memories and the forms they take over time inexorably mark our present.

Through this artistic experience, participants are invited to engage in the exercise of becoming closer to others as well as to themselves, and enjoy this journey full of beauty and strong emotions.

BOGDAN MOROTSANU – ROCABELLA – Invulnerable – mixed three-dimensionally

The album, which was already announced and expected by the band’s fans, Invulnerable The official launch will take place on December 9 in Bucharest. However, those who want to listen to songs from this album in 3D, which includes ten songs written during the pandemic, can do so on December 7 from 20:00 on the Wolff Platform.

FELIX DEUFEL & NIKHIL NAGARAJ – An Exciting Himalayan Experience

Felix Dofel, the founder of the ZiMMT center and the sound artist who created the 3D sound installation, will present on the evening of December 8 at the Wolff Platform a special project developed together with his colleague, the sound artist Nikhil Nagaraj. If we disappear – In search of natural silence is a project launched this spring in which two sound engineers and their teams set out to use their passion for sound and the sophisticated equipment at their disposal to capture the sonic heritage of some of the world’s most important natural areas.

At the intersection of design, technology, science and philosophy, this 40-day endeavor aimed to record the sound of these wild areas before they disappear or are irreparably affected by human presence. On the final night of events at the Wolff Platform, Felix Deufel and Nikhil Nagaraj will present some of the results of the project, which includes more than 434 hours of sounds recorded in 3D.

Thus, in the universe created by the two installations, the public will be able to step into one of the last wild places in the world, immerse themselves in the tropical forests of southern and northeastern India or the arid mountain landscape of the Himalayas, and explore three types other than sound: biophony – created by non-human factors, geophony – non-biological natural sound and anthropophony – man-made noise.

FELIX DEUFEL – Spatial audio workshop

In addition, from December 6 to 8, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., those wishing to learn more about three-dimensional audio structures can take part in a workshop held in the same room by Felix Deufel, the initiator of creativity. center of ZiMMT.
