Tatoi: Work Begins on Former Royal Palaces – Full Plan

Strategic plan of the Ministry of Culture and Sports for the use of the former royal estate in Those infrastructure networks are being modernized as planned and on schedule, as is the restoration of valuable building stock.

Six separate infrastructures – water supply, fire fighting, irrigation, sewerage and wastewater treatment, electric power and telecommunications – are linked to the final infrastructure network study approved by the Central Board of New Monuments.

KSNM also gave a positive opinion on the restoration studies of the new Wustasius, Hyppostasy and Shelter, as well as on the accessibility of the now restored Forester’s House, which will house a visitor information center about the history of the estate.

infrastructure networks

Specifically, the final Infrastructure Networks Study includes the following separate studies:

  • “Water distribution network from the new EIDAP water supply system for water supply of buildings and structures”: It provides for connection to EYDAP, a new distribution network for all buildings and structures of the Manor, as well as the construction of a reservoir for water supply.
  • “Fire extinguishing network from the new delivery of AIDAP”: The new installation provides for a network covering the entire core of the estate, with fire hydrants and water cannons (cannons) at selected positions around the perimeter. A complete monitoring and control system for the entire fire extinguishing and public warning installation is also provided. Autonomous systems with gas are installed in places where water cannot be used as a fire extinguishing agent.
  • “Distribution networks of medium and low voltage”: Connection to the existing DEDDIE medium voltage underground network, the formation of an underground loop and the construction of a low voltage radial distribution network are planned in order to properly electrify the historic core of the estate.
  • “Sewer networks and treatment facilities”: It is planned to collect wastewater from serviced buildings and transport it through a network of pipelines to a central biological treatment plant, which will be located outside the central core.
  • “Rehabilitation of the existing water supply network from the Kitara spring”: The basic principle of irrigating the gardens and crops of the estate is to use water from the existing Kitara reservoir, as well as reuse water after biological treatment through a pumping station. Projects are planned to improve and functionally rehabilitate the existing reservoir.
  • “Telecommunication network”: It is planned to develop a complete telecommunications network in accordance with international standards, in order to establish an appropriate telecommunications infrastructure and a detection and warning network in the central core of the estate.

The project is funded by the European Program “Transport Infrastructure, Environment and Sustainable Development 2014-2020” (YMEPERAA) of the Ministry of Development and Investment.

Restoration and accessibility of buildings

The approved studies concern the following buildings:

New Bustasio

The approved final project for the restoration of the Neos Voustasios building includes its transformation into an exhibition space.

On the ground floor there will be a museum area for exhibits stored in the building – evidence of the agricultural and livestock production of the estate – with separate sections for the display of dairy, oil and wine products.

In the same building, an exhibition of cars-memorials of the Estate will be launched. Exhibits include vintage Rolls-Royces, MG TD Midgets, an electric Fiat 500 Boano Spider Elegance and golf carts.

On the floor, a multifunctional room and a space for events are formed.

The Neo Voustasi building is located in the so-called rural part of the estate. It was completed in 1952 and replaced the old Vustasi building as it was insufficient at the time to meet the needs of the estate’s growing agricultural production.

The budget project of 4,300,000 euros received funding from the Recovery Fund.

Stud

The approved study provides for the Hippodrome building to be publicly accessible and to function as a children’s art space and an information center for horses.

The single space on the ground floor houses the reception, reading room, dining-living room, information center for horses and auxiliary rooms.

On the ground floor there is a zone of children’s creativity, which includes a building room, a room for classes and auxiliary rooms (reception, hygiene, staff rooms).

The building “Horseshoe” is located in the production part of the Estate. It is part of the second complex of stables, erected in the first period of the manor rebuilding (1873-78) by George I. In the immediate surroundings, the manor bell tower has been preserved – the word “Tatoi” and the date “1895” are engraved on the bell.
