A new kind of flightless dinosaur with an “aerodynamic” body similar to that of penguins, paleontologists have found in Mongolia. This is the first time a bipedal carnivorous dinosaur with an aerodynamic body has been discovered.
Researchers led by Wong-Nam Lee from the Seoul National University of South Korea, who published their article in the journal Communications Biology, discovered the fossilized remains (almost complete skeleton with skull, spine and some limbs) of a new species in the Mongolian province of Omnogovi.
The new dinosaur was named Natovenator polydontus, which means “multi-toothed swimming hunter”. It is estimated to have been a semi-aquatic predator with a long neck similar to that of a modern goose. It is believed that he fed mainly on fish and insects.
