The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) said that during searches of the monastery of the Moscow Patriarchate in Munkach, Zakarpattia region, it found propagandistic and xenophobic literature, Kyiv Independent reports.
For example, xenophobic books and brochures were found, in which Ukraine’s right to independence is denied, while at the same time it is noted that Russia, Ukraine and Belarus “cannot be divided.”
On November 30, the SBU announced that it was checking the monastery for possible “subversive activities of Russian special services in Ukraine.”
Last week, the SBU searched at least three other offices of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, finding Russian passports of church leaders and documents with pro-Russian ideological messages.
Despite the UOC MP’s official statement declaring “independence” from the Russian Orthodox Church in May and “condemning the war,” the church’s agenda remains tied to Moscow officials, and they remain officially subordinate to the Russian Church in the hierarchy of the Orthodox world. .
Patriarch Kirill, head of the Russian Orthodox Church, spoke in favor of Russia’s war against Ukraine. During a sermon in September, he said that sacrificing one’s life in the war against Ukraine “washes away sins.”
