On the occasion of December 1, 80 people will walk with “spritz and violinists” in the Royal train. The ticket costs 500 euros and the event is sold out. The Royal House of Romania considers the event “blasphemy”.
The event company that organized the party collected a total of 40,000 euros from 80 people for a “unique” meal on the royal train, Libertatea notes.
“We celebrate the National Day of Romania at the level of art. Travel back in time with the ROYAL TRAIN, on the route Bucharest – Sinaia, which will remind you of the past. This is one of the few times when the Royal Train will host a unique experience,” the event page says.
The trip by the Royal Train to the Romanian National Day party will take place between Banyasa Station and Sinaia and back.
The royal family reacted strongly to the news that the royal train would be used for the party.
“From my point of view, it is blasphemous to do such actions in the Royal Train, and I do not believe that the history of Romania can be rented. Of course, I absolutely do not approve of what is happening now, because the Royal Train took King Michael on his last journey, to Court de Arges, and now, five years later, we are seeing such events,” said the Director of Property Management Regal. , Ion Tuka, for Antena 3.
Who rented the royal train
The railway travel company SFT CFR SA has leased the Royal Train since December 1, Europa Liberă reports.
Rail travel company SFT CFR SA is insolvent and is being controlled by judicial administrator Gabriel Iorgulescu.
“Tourist railway company “SFT – CFRSA” – in a state of bankruptcy, has in its heritage the rolling stock of the era, respectively the Royal Train, Moldova Train, Kalugareni Train, Dracula Train, steam locomotives, etc. (…) The enterprise does not receive subsidies from the state budget, providing income exclusively from the lease of railway property (buildings, terminals, cantons, etc.) and tourist service of passenger trains, which are part of the old rolling stock.” , – said Yorgulescu for Free Europe.
He also said that the rental, especially of the Royal Train, is carried out only for events “of cultural and scientific interest, promoting the cultural history and traditions of Romania, without in any way violating the name of the ancient train and all its positions and symbols.”
A company representative says he has spoken with representatives of the royal household, who have informed him that this year it will not be chartering the train for December 1, as it has in past years.
The royal train, a page of history
The Italian-made royal train is currently used by the royal family and is probably the oldest operating royal train in the world.
From 1928, it was seen as a vehicle for King Ferdinand and Queen Maria during their many visits to the territory of Greater Romania.
The current Royal Train has carried Queen Mary, Queen Mother Helena and King Charles II around the country and when they travel abroad on state visits.
The royal train brought Queen Helena to the country in 1940 when she returned from exile. King Mihai traveled extensively in the royal train during World War II.
King Mihai and the Queen Mother visited Chisinau, traveling by royal train. It is also the royal train that carried the royal family on their tragic journey into exile in January 1948.
So the train was used by four generations of the royal family: Queen Mary, King Charles II, Queen Helena, King Mihai and His Majesty Margareta. King Ferdinand I and Queen Anne never traveled on this train, according to the Royal Household.
