A woman has been found dead and about 10 people are still missing on the southern Italian island of Ischia after heavy rain triggered a landslide that “swallowed” several buildings on Saturday, an Italian local government official said, according to Reuters.
Torrential rain hit the port of Casamicciola Terme, one of the island’s towns, in the morning, causing flooding and destroying buildings.

“Currently, the number of confirmed deaths is one woman. Eight missing people have been found, including a child, and about 10 are still missing,” Naples Prefect Claudio Palomba told a news conference, adding that about 100 people living near the landslide area had been evacuated.
Earlier, Infrastructure Minister Matteo Salvini said eight people had died.
Seventy firefighters are working on the island, which is about 30 km from Naples, to rescue residents from damaged buildings and search for missing people, Italy’s fire service said on Twitter.
