German Chancellor Olaf Scholz believes that Germany is ready for winter thanks to the way his government has handled the energy crisis, writes dpa on Saturday, reports Agerpres.
“With all the decisions we have made, we can say right now, until the winter – we will probably get through this together,” Scholz told a meeting of his center-left Social Democratic Party.
More than 20 coal-fired power plants have been restarted or kept in operation, and three existing nuclear plants will also operate through the winter, the German chancellor said at a meeting on Saturday.
Gas storages have been loaded since low levels a year ago. Also, new liquefied natural gas terminals are being built in the coastal zone of Northern Germany, which, together with imports from Norway and the Netherlands, will ensure Germany’s energy security, Olaf Scholz reminded.
The supply of Russian gas to Germany stopped this year amid the dispute between Russia and Western countries related to the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine, dpa notes.
