The US Federal Communications Commission on Friday barred approval of new telecommunications equipment from Chinese companies Huawei Technologies and ZTE because it poses an “unacceptable risk” to US national security, Reuters reports.
The FCC said on Friday it had adopted final rules banning the sale or import of equipment deemed to pose a threat to the national security of the United States, the latest crackdown on Chinese telecommunications equipment makers.
FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel in October circulated the proposed measure, which effectively bars companies from selling new equipment in the United States, to the other three commissioners for final approval.
Huawei declined to comment, and ZTE did not immediately respond to a request for comment. (news.ro)
