After Russian missile strikes on its energy system, Ukraine has set up thousands of “invincibility centers” where people can stay warm and have access to water, internet and cellphones.

Zelensky noted that Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitsyko and his officials did not do enough to help.

“Unfortunately, the local government did not work well in all cities. In particular, there are many complaints in Kyiv… To put it mildly, we still need to work,” he said, noting the level of services available in many centers. in Kyiv was not good enough.

“Please be careful – Kyivites need additional support…many of them were without power for 20 or even 30 hours. We expect quality work from the mayor’s office.”

Zelensky also criticized those he believed lied in their official reports, but did not elaborate. More than 4,000 centers have been established so far.

The remarks were unusual, as Zelensky has tried to cultivate an image of national unity during the war and has routinely praised officials.

Klitsyko, a 51-year-old former professional boxer, was elected mayor of Kyiv in 2014. There was no immediate response from his office.
