Caroline Garcia’s emotional message after the 2022 season: “I cried from pain, sadness and joy”

Garcia has won four titles in the past six months and climbed from No. 75 to No. 4. In her message, the Frenchwoman spoke about her battle with injuries and said she plans to improve her game in 2023 as well.

“Dear season 2022, you made me go through all kinds of emotions, I cried from pain, sadness and joy in 11 months. But I learned so much about myself as a player and as a person.

There were a few times when I was overcome with doubt, I let negative things overwhelm me, I questioned the universe, I told myself that maybe my luck had run out, that I would never be successful again.

I had sleepless nights, I over ate, I cried in my hotel room, I cried on the tennis courts, I sat on crutches, I cursed, I relearned how to walk, I tried to put on shoes, I suffered physically and mentally.

But I also learned from every moment, from every difficulty. My leg injury made me realize how much I wanted to get back on the court and especially to play my real game, the one I love to watch, attacking tennis, I loved going to the net, hitting the winning shots, hiding the forehands, serving aces, be inside the court after returning.

This injury allowed me to play more calmly, I learned to go with the flow, I learned to accept my mistakes, unexpected things, trust myself, follow my instincts, the fact that I can eat pizza every now and then and that it won’t change my result the next day. If I’m dying to eat one, “it was good.” I realized that it’s good to think about other things on the weekend, it’s part of training and preparing for a match or tournament. I invited my friends to tournaments, realizing that it was very important for me to be able to share these things, I got to know myself better (and I still have so much progress to make).

I followed my passions, I cooked, I baked, I took time for myself, I read, I read a lot, I laughed, I lived new experiences, I opened bottles of champagne (we should celebrate titles, eh, in moderation), I ate a lot of delicious things, tasted flat white and golden lattes from all over the world.

By building day by day, staying positive, having faith, keeping simple goals in mind: being healthy, giving my best every day, living in the moment, playing my game to the fullest, I have come to live my best season of my career !

I won 4 titles including the Tournament of Champions, reached the semi-finals of the US Open, won my second Roland Garros in doubles. I finished the year ranked 4th in the world after 75th in June.

In the end, I enjoyed this season, I had some surreal experiences. I shared incredible moments with my family, team, friends. I am grateful for every day, every moment and every person who has been by my side this season. Thank you.

I’m not sure I’ve fully grasped what’s happened in the last few weeks, I just know how badly I want to relive those emotions. I feel like I can still improve my game a lot, after all I like to push my limits, challenge myself and I like to play like that!

Time to relax, digest, enjoy, live in the present moment. See you” – Caroline Garcia in social networks.
