Fierce fighting continues in the east of Donetsk region, where Ukrainian troops repelled more than 100 Russian attacks in a day, managing to hold their positions and not cede territory, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said on Friday evening. He said that “future successes” are being prepared in certain areas and suggested that this is the basis on which Ukraine is building a “peace plan” that he presented to Western partners, inviting them to join.

“I addressed the participants of the security forum in Halifax, Canada, which is one of the world security forums. I once again presented the Ukrainian peace formula and invited Canada and our other partners to choose for themselves a component of the peace formula in which to demonstrate their leadership as much as possible. This is the meaning of how we present our proposals for restoring peace. I divided them into elements – what is Russian aggression. And we do everything to neutralize each of these elements and neutralize the aggressor. Every day I receive very positive feedback from the world about our approach – great leaders support the constructive Ukrainian spirit. And I think that we will succeed in implementing our peace formula,” Zelenskyy said, News.ro reports.

“Fierce fighting in the Donetsk region is still going on, there is no easing of hostilities, no respite. Only yesterday, about a hundred Russian attacks were repelled in the Donetsk region. All our fighters resisting in Donbas are real heroes. (…) Nowhere on the front line are we yielding to the enemy. Everywhere we respond, everywhere we defend our positions. We are preparing future successes in certain areas,” Zelenskyy told compatriots in a video message that he usually broadcasts at the end of each day.

The electricity situation is still difficult

He showed that the difficult situation with electricity supply persists in 17 regions and in the capital, but the most difficult situation is in Odesa, Vinnytsia and Ternopil regions.

“During the day, the power industry worked to restore the normal technical possibility of electricity supply, as a result of which emergency shutdowns are significantly less today. Since the evening, stabilization schedules have been established in most regions where power outages continue. “Emergency stops were used to a greater extent in Odesa region and Kyiv,” Zelenskyy said.

In the recently recaptured Kherson, the first two special points were opened, where people can come to charge their phones, warm up, drink tea and get help. “We provided communication services there, there are Starlinks, etc. We know that it is very difficult for the people, because the occupiers destroyed everything before fleeing. But we will reconnect everything, restore everything,” the Ukrainian president promised.

Ukraine expects another 3 billion euros from the EU by the end of the year

According to him, energy was the main topic of his conversations on Friday with Vice President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis, who was in Kyiv. Financial cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union and Ukraine’s financing needs until the end of the year and next year were also discussed in detail.

“This year, we expect two tranches of macro-financial assistance – EUR 2.5 billion in November and EUR 0.5 billion in early December,” Zelenskyy said. “We also discussed new sanctions against Russia that can be introduced at the European level,” he added.

How Ireland helps Ukraine

Zelensky noted that on Friday he also spoke with the student community in Ireland, which could help Kyiv from a media point of view. “Today I spoke with the student community in Ireland, a country that fundamentally supports us. Although it is a neutral country from a military point of view, Ireland strongly defends European values and helps us from a political and humanitarian point of view. I made two inquiries to the Irish. The first is to promote at the pan-European level the need to strengthen sanctions against Russia. The second is to help us spread the truth about the events in Ukraine and about Russian terror,” Zelenskyy said.

A conversation with Recep Erdogan

The Ukrainian president also said he spoke by phone with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, whom he thanked for his efforts to expand the Black Sea grain export initiative, which Russia eventually agreed to by extending it for another 120 days. Zelenskyy once again mentioned the new humanitarian initiative “Grains from Ukraine”, which he mentioned the other day, without giving too many details. He expressed hope that Turkey will join the implementation of this initiative. “Of course, attention was paid to both security cooperation and the energy situation,” Zelensky also said in connection with the conversation with Erdogan.
