The first train from Kyiv to the recently liberated Kherson left on Friday. “This is our victory train!” This was stated by Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Kyrylo Tymoshenko in Telegram, CNN reports.

There were about 200 passengers in the train.

“Just like this train, we will restore everything for a normal life in Kherson!”. Tymoshenko wrote.

Residents of Kherson have lived under Russian occupation for eight months, but last week Ukrainian troops stormed the city as Moscow forces retreated east.

The recapture of the city, which was the only regional capital occupied by Kremlin forces, sparked jubilant scenes in the streets, with locals singing, waving flags and hugging Ukrainian soldiers.

However, much remains to be done to restore basic services in the city and surrounding areas, and Ukrainian officials are currently investigating the brutality and torture experienced by prisoners in the city.
