The Court of Constanta issued arrest warrants for 29 days for seven soldiers and one civilian from the Mykhailo Kogelnichyan Air Base, suspected of fuel theft.
These 8 were arrested on Wednesday morning for fuel theft after dozens of searches by the military prosecutor’s office.
The military is part of the Mykhailo Kogalnichanu Air Base in Konstanz County and during 2022 repeatedly stole fuel belonging to the military unit, kerosene and diesel fuel, totaling approximately 7 tons, seized or used later for personal gain.
In this case, a day ago, about 50 searches were conducted both at the Kogelnichyan base and in the houses of some suspects and witnesses, so far the prosecutor’s office has documented the theft of at least 7 tons of fuel. We are talking about fuel that was intended for helicopters and airplanes, as well as for the fleet at the military base.
The case is handled by the Prosecutor’s Office of the Bucharest Military Court, and the hearing was held at the ConstanČ›a Transport Police.
This is not the first investigation into the theft of fuel from the Kogelnichyan military base. Late last year, police officers and DIICOT prosecutors conducted a search for members of a group accused of stealing approximately $2,000,000 worth of fuel from the Mykhailo Kogelnican U.S. military base starting in 2017, to the detriment of the U.S. federal government.
