“Apples” Christos Nikos becomes a TV series

Canadian writer Ian Reed and American actor and screenwriter Jason Schwartzman are working on an adaptation of The Apples, the award-winning film and directorial debut Christos Nikos since 2020 on the American small screen.

The new project will be directed by Niku himself, producers Reed and Schwartzman, among others, and Cate Blanchett Production Company, Dirty Pictures.

TV Apples will expand on the world Nicu created for the film, which was nominated for the 2021 Oscars by Greece in the Best International Film category. The action takes place in a city whose name we do not know, in the midst of a sudden outbreak of amnesia among the inhabitants. This is a series that touches on existential issues, deeply explores human characters, has comedic elements, but above all, is honest. It follows a group of amnesiacs who join an experimental rehabilitation program designed to help the participants “create” a new identity.

Reed is the author of five books, including the best-selling novel I’m Thinking of Ending It, which has been translated into more than 20 languages and was recently made into a Netflix movie. His second novel, The Enemy, is expected to be made into a film starring Saoirse Ronan.

Schwartzman is starring in Wes Anderson’s upcoming film Asteroid City and will later be seen in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. In addition, he also appears in the film “The French Dispatch”, which was released last year.

Athinios Nikou is currently filming his second film “Fingernails” for Apple. Before directing The Apples, he worked as an assistant director on films such as Fang and Before Midnight.
