A 66-year-old British man suspected of sexually assaulting a flight attendant on Saturday during a flight from Leeds, England, to Alicante, Spain, will appear in court on December 13 in Nantes, in western France, where the plane had to be diverted, police and prosecutors said. , reports AFP.

On Saturday morning, “at the request of the captain, the plane was sent to Nantes airport” and the man was taken into custody, border police said on Tuesday, saying the flight attendant had filed a complaint.

According to a statement from Nantes’ public prosecutor’s office, the British man, a pensioner, “was placed under judicial supervision pending his appearance before the criminal court on December 13.

The defendant confessed what he had done to the stewardess.

“He was highly intoxicated when he was handed over to the border police, who were investigating,” Nantes prosecutor Renaud Gaudel said, adding that he had 2.2 grams of alcohol per liter of blood.

In mid-May, a Ryanair flight from Manchester, England, to Faro, Portugal, was also turned away at Nantes airport because five drunken Britons were disturbing other passengers, AFP reported.
