Secret negotiations between Russia and the USA are taking place in Turkish Ankara on Monday, a source of the Russian Kommersant newspaper reported.

The delegation sent by Moscow is headed by the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service Serhii Naryshkin.

This meeting was not publicly announced by either side. The source refused to disclose the details of the negotiations to “Kommersant” at this time.

Kremlin spokesman Dmytro Peskov said that he could neither confirm nor deny the information about the talks in Ankara.

Kommersant’s source did not say with whom Naryshkin is meeting, but his usual colleague is CIA Director Bill Burns, notes the head of the Financial Times from Russia, Max Seddon.

The Russian and American delegations last met on January 10 this year in Geneva to discuss security guarantees.

Later, Russia cited the lack of results of the January negotiation process as one of the reasons for the start of the war in Ukraine.

In March, Naryshkin said that President Vladimir Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine was based on an “extremely accurate” and “realistic” assessment of the world situation.
