Only one section of the highway has a certain chance of opening to traffic this year. The roughly 13km from Sibiu to Boita will effectively be the only kilometers of highway open this year, after 40km of high-speed road was opened in the summer, but as an expressway rather than a highway.

  • With this opening, Romania will symbolically approach the symbolic milestone of 1,000 km of expressways: about 955 km of highways and 40 km of expressways (the first such road was inaugurated in the summer, the segment of Bals-Slatina Express Road DEx12 Craiova – Pitesti)

Currently, works on the Sibiu-Boita section (13.17 km) of the A1 Sibiu-Pitesti highway are on schedule and on track for a grand opening at the end of the year. Austrian builder Porr is working here under a contract worth around 612 million lei with an official completion date of April 2023.

Work on the A1 Sibiu – Boita (13.17 km) started in April 2020 and has so far reached approximately 90.4%.

In the new images taken from the drone, you can see the progress of the construction and the points where the builder has yet to draw the opening this year: the Telmachel Viaduct, the Telmachu Viaduct or the junctions of the roads from Sibiu and Boit.
