The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has ordered a new batch of the latest hypersonic Zircon missiles, which President Vladimir Putin calls “unique in the world.” An additional contract for several dozen missiles should be completed in 2023, TASS reports, Ukrainian Pravda writes.

In fact, according to Dmitry Medvedev, quoted by TASS, Russia still has weapons in its arsenal for a “special forces operation” in Ukraine. “For reasons obvious to all reasonable people, Russia has not yet used its entire arsenal of weapons. Nor did it hit all possible enemy targets in cities. <…> Everything in its time.”

At the end of July this year, Putin announced that the Russian Navy will receive new hypersonic Zircon cruise missiles in the coming months, and the areas of their deployment will depend on the interests of the Kremlin.

“The delivery of these missiles to the Russian armed forces will begin in the coming months. The Admiral Gorshkov frigate will be the first to go on the offensive with this formidable weapon on board,” Putin said.

“The key aspect here is the capability of the Russian fleet… It can quickly respond to anyone who decides to violate our sovereignty and freedom,” Vladimir Putin also said.

Hypersonic weapons can travel at nine times the speed of sound.

In early June, Russia announced that it had completed tests of the hypersonic Zircon cruise missile and would conduct them by the end of the year on a new frigate of the Northern Fleet.
