Domnești Passage, the first suspended roundabout on the capital’s ring road, has been opened to traffic, but construction still needs to be completed and traffic on the ring road is still restricted in the area.

The road from Domnesti was opened to traffic on Friday at 12.00 and immediately the traffic between Domnesti and Bucharest moved to a new suspended roundabout, the ground level crossing that also crossed the railway lines was canceled from that point.

Although the flyover is open to traffic, the developer has not completed all the work and is still working on some improvements.

In addition, there is still heavy traffic and queues in the area, on the ring road, as traffic is still limited to one lane in each direction. It is likely that in the coming weeks, after the completion of the final works and the application of the final markings under the underpass, traffic will be opened in both lanes in both directions.

Passaj Domnești – torment of 14 years – works blocked and restored with difficulty

Work on the Domnești Passage was resumed in the summer of 2020 after almost two years of permanent blockages. The latest problem was the insolvency of the main developer STRACO, but the site and works were taken over by subcontractor Tracon.

The first work on the passage from Domnesti started in 2018 based on a partial construction permit, but the rest of the project was blocked for several reasons: the technical design had to be completely redone compared to what was tendered, as the capital Zal requested to expand the area to accommodate the return line of the tram; engineering communications were translated with great difficulty; primary and additional alienation (as a result of project modification) was carried out with great delay; the developer became insolvent.

Although the actual work started in 2018, the difficulties of creating a passage at the DNCB intersection in Domnești have been going on for more than 14 years:
