President Klaus Iohannis presented the status of Romania’s steps, as well as “the legitimate expectations of our country” regarding joining the Schengen area.

“I had a very good meeting with President Emmanuel Macron this evening at the Elysee Palace. France is a supporter of our country joining the Schengen zone, and in our discussion we thanked President Macron for his strong support. Romania is ready to join, as confirmed by the positive results of the recent assessment mission. In addition, the expansion of the Schengen area will contribute to strengthening the security and stability of the European Union as a whole,” the Romanian president wrote on his Facebook page.

He also mentioned the French military presence in our country and the strategic partnership between Romania and France.

“As for the security situation, France is also here with us, the permanent military presence of French troops in Romania contributes significantly to the strengthening of NATO’s eastern flank. The deepening of the strategic partnership between our states, the development of the security situation in Ukraine and the beginning of the process of rebuilding the territories affected by the war were the topics that I touched on today in the very good dialogue that I had with President Macron. “, said Klaus Iohannis.

According to the press release of the Presidential Administration, the leaders of the two countries also discussed the security situation caused by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and its consequences at the European and global levels, with an emphasis on energy and food security.

“The President of Romania presented the measures and actions of our country, expressing gratitude for France’s willingness to contribute to the development of the necessary infrastructure on the Romanian railway and river routes,” the message reads.
