Maria Kokkinou was one of the rarest people I have had the pleasure of meeting in my life.
He combined stubbornness and directness with incredible tenderness and sensitivity. A dynamic woman who filled the room with her presence and captivated everyone who met her.
She has been dating Andreas Kurkulas since she was 18, when, as a shy architecture student, they met at the very busy Polytechnic University in the post-colonial period. Her talent in architecture was special, as was the “duet” with Kurkulas, who magically combined her creative takeoff with earthly and solid foundations.
Kokkinou was the best thing to come out of an era that was marked by great excitement, dreams of where this country might go, worries and many strong feelings. Those of us who knew her found something very unique and authentic in her friendship, even with her harsh remarks about things she didn’t “understand” or disapprove of.
We will miss you very much Maria. Have a nice trip.
