
A total of 22,197 violations were confirmed during 104,250 traffic inspections carried out from October 30 to November 5, 2022 throughout Greece, according to data from the Ministry of Citizens’ Protection. 66% of offenses are related to speeding, illegal parking, not using a safety helmet, revocation of a driver’s license and not wearing a seat belt.
In particular, violations confirmed by region are 3185 in Attica, 2897 in Thessaloniki, 2646 in Thessaly, 2005 in Central Macedonia, 1850 in Western Greece, 1725 in Crete, 1632 in East Macedonia and Thrace, 1541 in Epirus, 1374 in Peloponnese , 1106 in Central Greece, 737 in the Ionian Islands, 574 in Western Macedonia, 517 in the North Aegean and 408 in the South Aegean.
In particular, confirmed violations relate to 6,467 illegal parking, 5,112 speeding, 1,387 driving without a driver’s license, 924 without using a protective helmet, 752 without using a seat belt, 562 traffic violations, 460 drunk driving, 384 uninsured vehicles, 383 using a mobile phone, 269 traffic light violations, 173 driving in the opposite direction, 151 wrong maneuvers, 100 worn tires, 85 wrong overtaking, 75 failing to keep a safe distance, 58 oncoming traffic on a one-way street, 47 cases of driver distraction, 28 cases misuse of lights, 21 priority violations, 20 cases of overweight, 13 cases of non-use of child seats, 11 cases of missing a seat belt and 4,715 other violations.
In addition, on a daily basis during the week from October 31 to November 6, 2022, targeted actions and specialized traffic control of the Attica Traffic Authority were carried out in the area of u200bu200bthe Athens-Souni coastal EA, in order to combat impromptu races, as well as other dangerous violations that lead to to traffic accidents that violate the safety of transportation and the unhindered and safe movement of citizens.
In total, 489 traffic rules for drivers and vehicles were carried out and 238 violations were confirmed, for which appropriate administrative fines were imposed.
In particular, 33 violations were confirmed for speeding, 20 for not wearing a helmet, 14 for noise, 13 for drunk driving, 9 for revocation of a driver’s license, 3 for not using a seat belt, 3 for abnormal maneuvers, one for traffic light violations, 2 for impromptu races and 140 related to other infractions.
In addition, 20 pairs of license plates, 37 vehicle registrations, and 24 driver’s licenses were seized, and 6 vehicles were moved.
As noted by the Ministry of Citizens’ Protection, ELAS attaches particular importance to road safety issues, and in this context, the control will continue with the same intensity in order to reduce traffic accidents and accidents.
