For House elections, Edison Research tracks the number of seats that go from one party to another, as opposed to the net gain or loss of seats overall by any party.

The projection does not take into account the seven new seats created by redistricting and the two elections in which a Democrat and a Republican face each other because of redistricting.

According to Edison’s projections, Republicans won 206 of the 435 seats in the House of Representatives, and Democrats won 187 seats.

Edison calculated that the Democrats gained a Senate seat after declaring Pennsylvania for John Fetterman.

Earlier in the evening, Republicans needed just one Senate seat to take control of the House.
