In the midst of tensions, a minor trial began in the case of the death of a 14-year-old schoolgirl who was dragged by a car while returning from a tutoring school and trying to cross a pedestrian crossing on the main street of Alexandria Imatija. who moved at breakneck speed, causing the juvenile to die from her severe injuries.
The fatal traffic accident occurred in March 2017 and the 23-year-old driver of the vehicle was taken to court for trial on felony charges, APE reports. According to experts, he was driving a damaged (“made-up”) car, as well as with worn tires. At first instance, he was sentenced by a mixed jury of Polygyros Chalkidiki to 6.5 years in prison, as he was found guilty of a traffic violation resulting in death, manslaughter and violation of the Code of Civil Procedure. He was released pending the decision of the Court of Appeal.
The Court of Appeal began in the morning with the testimony of the 14-year-old’s father. Holding a photograph of his dead daughter in his hands and emotionally charged, he spoke of the “murder”, denouncing the defendants’ attempt to “hide” the facts. “He was running on a busy road at a speed of 130-140 km / h, maybe more. The car was built for a 900 cc engine. If the car was “manic”, my daughter might be alive today. He operated a “lethal” tool. It’s like putting a supercar in a cart,” the witness said, among other things.
As tensions mounted during the father’s cross-examination, the court had to adjourn the proceedings to calm the mood. The juvenile’s mother, for her part, described the car as a “weapon” used by the driver to carry out a “demonstration”.
The trial continues with the questioning of the remaining witnesses for the prosecution.
