“Of course, I will not give up the position of prime minister on rotation. But it’s also normal… at the moment there is this decision, when I went to Kotrocen, to run for the post of prime minister,” Marcel Čolaku said on B1 TV on Wednesday evening.

When asked whether President Klaus Iohannis agrees with the rotation at the head of the executive power, Čolaku replied that he did not conclude a protocol with the head of state.

“I do not draw up protocols with President Klaus Iohannis. I did not have this dialogue with President Klaus Iohannis. I believe that the President of Romania takes into account the political protocol that the majority creates. According to the Constitution, the power to appoint the prime minister belongs to the president. Shall I go and ask the president? He will have to take into account the political act. Nothing, we will have early elections, everything is simple! We don’t need to complicate them any more,” added Cholaku.

The SDP leader said that he hopes that the process will take place “very quickly” during the rotation at the head of the Government.

At the same time, Cholaku again accused the head of state of being involved in the election campaign.

“Can this left and right coalition lead the country in the direction of normality and institutional respect. Everyone should see the powers granted to them by the Constitution. Don’t think that I will ever forget – it’s not about forgiveness, that we are Christians – but I will never forget the participation of the President of Romania in the election campaigns or the participation of a certain political party. I don’t want something like this to happen again. I want the President of Romania to respect the constitution and understand his role and the goal he had,” the SDP leader also confirmed.
