Twitter owner Elon Musk ditched the gray “Official” badge reserved for governments and media figures on Wednesday, hours after its launch, in a new shift the entrepreneur has become accustomed to, AFP reported.

“Just removed this,” the CEO tweeted to a user who noticed his icon was gone.

“The blue mark will put everyone on the same level,” the multibillionaire added.

On Wednesday, Twitter began distributing the “Official” badge, which indicates the authenticity and popularity of an account.

But Elon Musk wants to integrate account verification into Twitter Blue, a monthly subscription that will rise to $8 a month and be open to everyone, not just organizations and celebrities.

Accounts such as AFP in French, English and Spanish, Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Pope Francis in English and controversial rapper Kanye West all received the “Official” badge before it disappeared.

Political leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, US President Joe Biden, and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, received the “Official Government” badge.

On Wednesday, Twitter did not provide details on the criteria for receiving the “Official” badge.
