Polish President Andrzej Duda opposes new “concessions” made to the European Commission, which blocks important European funds due to concerns about the independence of the judicial system in Poland, writes AFP.

  • “I will no longer respond to the offers of the other side,” Duda said in an interview that will be published on Monday in the weekly Sieci and excerpts from which were published by the portal wpolityce.pl, which is close to the nationalist conservatives in power.
  • “As far as I know, we have fulfilled all the conditions to receive funds from the restart plan,” Duda emphasized. It is about 35 billion euros intended for liquidation of the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.

Warsaw made some changes to its judicial reforms to formally respond to criticism from Brussels and the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), but the European Commission did not consider these changes sufficient to ensure judicial independence from political power.

Responding to a question about the possible flexibility of his country’s position, Duda said that it would be inappropriate: “I don’t think that a new step in the direction of the expectations of the other side can give results. I believe that the Polish side showed too much. good will”.

He claims that “the left-liberal camp, whose representatives constitute the majority in the Commission, wants to provoke a change of power in Poland at any cost.” (Source: Agerpres)
