According to a statement sent on Saturday night by the Ilfov police, the search was carried out in a building in Bucharest where the 20-year-old actually lived.

The police found 28,200 lei in the stove in the house.

The man was arrested for 30 days for embezzlement.

There were 278,000 lei in the bag, and more than 235,000 lei were found by the police in a backpack that the young man had with him during the arrest.

A man who worked at the post office for less than two weeks was detained by the police on Friday evening in Ploiesti.

The young man told the police that he was tired of the hard life and spent the money on clothes, food in a restaurant and renting an apartment in Ploiesti, Digi 24 reports.

He was taken for questioning to the Chytila police, and when asked by journalists why he stole the money, he answered: “Because I didn’t have it.” Also, when asked what he did with the money, he replied: “I had fun.”

The investigation began after a representative of the Romanian post office reported to the district police inspectorate on November 1 that at around 11:40 an employee (a valuable transport driver) informed him that when he was stopped on Erului Street in Chiažna, a van carrying cash had disappeared bag with the amount of 278,000 lei (over 55,000 euros). The same representative of the Post Office complained that the bag with money was stolen by the driver’s companion, also an employee of the Post Office.
