The head of the dermatovenerology clinic at the Sfântul Spiridon Hospital in Iasi, Dr. Carmen Solovestra, was fired after it was found that she had hospitalized her parents in the unit where she worked for a total of 1,229 days over six years. , reports Agerpres.
The head of the hospital “St. Spyridon” prof. Dr. Daniel Vasile Timofte announced in a press release that it was decided to terminate the duties and responsibilities of the chief physician of the dermatovenereological clinical department of Prof. Dr. Laura Gheucă Solovăstru and their admiration for Dr. Alina Stincanu.
The decision came after the commission found that doctor Laura Geuke Solovestru admitted her parents to the clinic she managed instead of admitting them to the palliative ward.
He hospitalized his parents 32 times, for a total of 1,229 days
According to the commission’s report, between 2016 and 2022, the patient Nicolae Solovestru had 20 hospitalizations, from 15 to 85 days, which amounted to 927 days, with three re-hospitalizations at intervals of two to three days. In addition, from 2016 to 2022, the patient Rodica Solovăstru had 12 hospitalizations, from 3 to 47 days, for a total of 302 days.
“Although the performance indicators of the department for the years 2018-2022 remain at optimal values, long and repeated hospitalizations were not justified after the main hospitalization diagnosis in the clinical department of the emergency medical care hospital. As the main hospitalization diagnosis, acute urticaria and chronic exacerbation of food or anti-inflammatory drugs prevailed drugs, without conducting tests for allergies or without confirming the presence of elevated eosinophils or immunoglobulin IgE, which is non-compliance with the protocol for the diagnosis and treatment of allergic urticaria,” says University Professor Dr. Daniel Vasile Timofte.
According to the cited statement, the patient’s chronic concomitant diseases are: arterial hypertension, atrial fibrillation, cecal stroke, left-sided hemiparesis, diabetes. In addition, the patient constantly wears a urinary catheter. Except for an episode of cardiac decompensation and SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia, he required 17 days of treatment in the intensive care unit. “They could have been more adequately treated in a palliative or geriatric service,” the press release states.
Also, the main hospitalized diagnosis of the woman was mainly acute or acute urticaria. “From the analysis of the evolution recorded in the observation sheets, there are no excuses for prolonged hospitalization,” the cited source said.
According to the commission’s conclusions, the management of the “St. Spyridon” hospital will implement an InfoWorld notification system that will signal long-term hospitalizations and analyze them monthly.
The management of the hospital assures that it will continue the audits from a financial and accounting point of view, and in case of detection of a biased attitude, the necessary legal measures will be applied.
