The Organized Crime Department indicted five individuals for specific offenses of fraud and forgery, use of forged documents and breach of duty. Crete.

According to the police, after a thorough investigation and use of information, evidence and special investigative actions, as well as with the assistance of special experts appointed by the region of Crete, it turned out that three citizens with office work in Heraklion and one citizen working in them acted as authorized processors of licenses (classifications) or transfer of ownership of vehicles in the Directorate of Transport and Communications of the Heraklion Regional Unit.

From their clients, they collected the necessary documents and the corresponding amount (issuance fee) provided for the issuance of permits, transfer of permits for the movement of vehicles, and also received appropriate remuneration. Then, instead of paying the amount of money prescribed by law for each case, they deposited a smaller amount by making a transaction through a transaction machine and falsified the printed receipt of the transaction to show the set amount. In addition, under the pretext of speedy processing of cases and assistance in the work of an employee of the Department of Transport and Communications of the Heraklion Regional Branch, the originals of the attached sealed documents were taken from him and filled out. Thus, according to the special check carried out, from 2011 to September 1, 2022, they caused damage to the Greek state by at least 874,780 euros.

As part of the preliminary investigation, the aforementioned service conducted searches in the homes of citizens, where, among other things, they found an amount of 20,290 euros, a number of documents, seals and relevant evidence, including 13 original license fees. receipts for the collection of fees for the transfer of the vehicle were found and confiscated.
