The Persian Empire under Darius the Great, the Golden Age of Ancient Egypt, the Hellenistic period in Ancient Greece and the rise of Augustus, the first Roman emperor, are the four historical periods that the new Métiers d’Art series is dedicated to. by Vacheron Constantin. Swiss fine watchmaking takes us on a journey through time and offers us the opportunity to discover glorious pages of history and world culture. He created four watch models, true masterpieces of painting and micro-art, created by the finest craftsmen of the house and designed in collaboration with the Louvre in Paris.
The curators and historians of the museum have inspired the designers, craftsmen and watchmakers of Vacheron Constantin, given them valuable advice and recommendations, and the result is worthy of these efforts.
Each watch has a 40mm 18k white or rose gold case and the dial has no hands but four windows that display (top and clockwise) hours, minutes, date and day of the week.
In the center is a valuable antique piece of art that is exhibited in the Louvre, and the decorative elements are inspired by the respective era.
Various traditional techniques have been used to make the dials, which only a few craftsmen in the world can perform. Such as microsculpture, engraving, enamel art, mosaic, miniature painting and marquetry.
The four World Heritage Masterpieces are the Victory of Samothrace, the Great Sphinx of Tanis from Ancient Egypt (2035-1680 BC), the bust of the Roman Emperor Augustus (27 BC – 68 AD) and The Lion of Darius, the lion that adorned the palace of Darius in Susa, the capital of the Empire Achaemenids (559 – 330 BC). The watch is a true work of art and is produced in an extremely limited edition of five pieces per theme.

The intricate gold carving around the dial is inspired by a fully carved marble amphora from Pergamum from the 2nd century BC. which is in the Louvre collection.
