However, the minister reportedly clarified that the main condition for the implementation of this structure is to ensure free access to a personal doctor for all citizens, which means that the required number of registration places must first be filled without a private fee. . The logic is that citizens should be able to find a personal doctor for free and only if they themselves want to register with a private doctor for a fee. During the teleconference, the minister also said that there could be no question of applying forced discounts (due to returns and rebates) to the fees of personal doctors, as well as limiting prescriptions. In addition to the Athens Medical Association, the political leadership of the Ministry of Health is currently holding meetings with other medical associations and associations on the implementation of the new primary health care system, trying to find ways to make this new system more “attractive” to doctors. . It is worth noting that to date, 4,600,000 citizens have registered with a personal doctor. The network of private doctors has 3,350 doctors, of which 1,100 are private (general practitioners, pathologists and professional doctors). The problem of shortage of personal doctors is noted in Attica, where there are enough doctors to cover only 50% of citizens aged 16 and over.
