Bob Dylan paid tribute to the late Jerry Lee Lewis

Bob Dylan paid tribute to the late Jerry Lee Lewis during his concert in Nottingham by covering Lewis’s 1970 hit “I Can’t Seem to Say Goodbye”.

After a series of early announcements of the 87-year-old’s death last week, Lewis’s death was officially confirmed Friday morning. “Judith, his seventh wife, was by his side when he died,” spokesman Zach Farnum wrote in a statement. “In his last moments, he told her that he welcomed the future and was not afraid.”

On the same day, Dylan stopped his show in England to pay his respects by telling his fans who were in attendance at the Motorpoint Arena concert, “I don’t know how many of you know, but Jerry Lee is gone. We’ll play this song, one of his. Jerry Lee will live forever – we all know that.”

He then began a touching rendition of “I Can’t Seem To Say Goodbye”.

In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine in 1969, Dylan mentioned the time he spent with Lewis while working in the same studio. Lewis, for his part, covered Dylan’s “Rita May”.
