He did not have time to “digest” extremely hot summer who lived with them historical heatwaves, and an equally unusually warm autumn hit Central and Western Europe. For a week now, in many regions of France and Spain, the situation has been reminiscent of summer.

In France, deviations from the norm for the season reached +15 degrees Celsius. For example, the maximum temperature in the southwest of France reached 32 degrees Celsius locallyand minimum temperatures in the same region broke long-term records, recording the minimum value 27 degrees Celsius.

OUR Konstantin Laguvar, director of research at the National Observatory in Athens, characterizes these prolonged and unusually high temperatures for the season as “intrusive weather behavior.

The Mediterranean Sea “follows” the high temperatures

As expected, persistently high temperatures in Western and Central Europe in recent months have also affected sea surface temperatures.

According to Mr. Laguvardo, at the beginning of the last month of autumn, the temperature in the Mediterranean varies from 18°С before 26°С. with high positive deviations observed in the Western Mediterranean and mainly in Iberia and Balearic Sea. Deviations are in order +2°С With +4°Сabove normal for the season.

“Last summer in the Mediterranean the temperature was 5 degrees above normal,” says K. mr. Laguvardos, adding that, on the contrary, the sea surface temperature in the Eastern Mediterranean throughout this period was maintained at the level of the norm and slightly below the norm (of the order -1°С With -2°C) mainly in the Aegean and Libyan Seas.
