Russia’s Defense Ministry said on Sunday it had found and analyzed the wreckage of drones used to attack Russian Black Sea Fleet ships in Crimea the day before, Reuters reported.
The ministry said its analysis showed the drones were equipped with Canadian-made navigation modules for the attack, which it said was carried out by British-led Ukraine, a claim Britain denied.
“After repelling an attack by terrorists on October 29 on ships that participated in the provision of the “grain corridor” <...>The wreckage of unmanned marine vehicles used by the Kyiv regime under the leadership of British representatives was discovered and brought to the surface,” the ministry said in a statement quoted by RIA.
Britain said on Saturday that Russian claims, including that British naval personnel blew up the Nord Stream pipeline last month, were false and aimed at deflecting attention from Russian military failures.
According to Ria, marine UAVs were allegedly launched from the coast near Odessa. Later, they moved along the “green corridor” security zone, then changed their route in the direction of the Russian naval base in Sevastopol.
The Ministry of Defense, quoted by Ria, said that “experts” suggested that the devices could have been launched from aboard one of the civilian vessels “leased by Kyiv or its Western patrons to export agricultural products”.
“Admiral Makarov” hit a naval drone in the attack
GeoConfirmed, a volunteer group documenting Russia’s war against Ukraine, has released video footage of naval drones attacking Russian Black Sea Fleet ships in Sevastopol on the Crimean peninsula, which Russia illegally annexed in 2014.
One of the published videos shows an alleged attack on a Russian frigate of the Admiral Hryhorovich type, and “only the Admiral Makarov corresponds to this class,” the volunteer group says.
The Admiral Makarov frigate is the most important Russian warship in the Black Sea after the sinking of the Moskva.
GeoConfirmed also claims that the footage stops when the drone crashes into the ship, which presumably exploded.
And ISW on Sunday, in its latest analysis of the conflict provoked by Russia in Ukraine, reported that the target of the Sevastopol drone strike was an Admiral Hryhorovych-type frigate.
The first video has emerged showing how Ukrainian naval drones were able to approach and shoot down the Russian frigate Admiral Makarov during today’s attack on the Russian naval base in Sevastopol, according to images posted on social media on Saturday. Later, minesweeper Ivan Golubets also falls.
#Ukraine: Great video of today’s attack on the Russian Sevastopol naval base.
Ukrainian unmanned surface ships (drones filled with explosives) probably managed to hit the project 11356R frigate (presumably Admiral Makarov) and the project 266M minesweeper Ivan Golubets. pic.twitter.com/6nJVkwvgKW— uD83CuDDFAuD83CuDDE6 Ukraine Weapons Tracker (@UAWeapons) October 29, 2022

Russia suspended the agreement on the export of Ukrainian grain due to the “terrorist attack”
The Russian Defense Ministry on Saturday accused Ukraine of a “terrorist act” and said it was suspending its participation in the UN-brokered agreement on the export of agricultural products from Ukrainian ports.
“Given… the terrorist act of the Kyiv regime with the participation of British experts against ships of the Black Sea Fleet and civilian vessels involved in ensuring the security of the “grain corridor”, the Russian side suspends participation in the implementation of agreements on the export of agricultural products from Ukrainian ports,” the message reads. Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
The ministry reported that earlier Saturday’s drone attacks were mostly repelled, one minesweeper “Ivan Golubets” was slightly damaged.
The head of Ukraine’s presidential administration Andriy Yermak on Saturday accused Russia of “blackmail” and “fictitious terrorist attacks” on its own territory after explosions in the occupied Crimean peninsula on Saturday, Reuters reported.
His comments were apparently a reaction to Russia’s accusations that Ukraine was involved in the bombing of the Black Sea Fleet in Crimea.

Have the Ukrainians developed a kamikaze marine drone?
Explosive boats are not a new invention, they were developed by the Italians during World War II and are still used today, most recently by Yemen’s Houthi rebels in the Red Sea.
Its appearance on the beach at Sevastopol in September suggests it has a long enough range to be useful, although Naval News analysts speculate it could also be launched from an aircraft.
Also, due to its small size, close to the size of a kayak, it would have a very difficult radar signature. All the elements visible in the photos also indicate that it is built for high speeds.
The Ukrainians do not report that they have developed such a naval drone, but they are known to have several home-made weapons that they have used against the Russian occupiers. The most famous of them is the “Neptune” anti-ship missile, which was used to sink the “Moscow”, the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet, in April.
In a July interview, the former commander of the Ukrainian special forces, General Serhii Krivonos, noted that Ukraine also has domestically produced volley fire systems, the “Vilkha” and “Vilkha-M” systems capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 120 kilometers.
However, the Ukrainian general then accused that the investments in them were neglected.
