
The search and rescue operation for foreigners was carried out in the morning hours of Friday in the water area north of the city of Samosunder the coordination of the Joint Search and Rescue Coordination Center HP-EL.ACT.
In particular, the authorities were informed by the European emergency number “112” to detect a ship with a sufficient number of foreigners on board in the surface part of the sea.
According to the relevant report, a Coast Guard patrol boat, a FRONTEX military boat, as well as an LS-E.AKT patrol car immediately left for the scene.
The patrol boat initially located an inflatable boat with five passengers, which it successfully assembled. According to them, there were three other people on the boat that fell into the sea.
Subsequently, the Italian FRONTEX force vessel found and detained two more people from the Zambo Vourliotes sea area, and another person was found during searches carried out on land by the aforementioned LS-EL patrol car. ., on the north coast and especially in front of the beach “Tsabu Vourliotes”.
A total of eight foreigners (all men) were taken to the port of Vateos Samos and are in good health, while, according to them, there were no other people on board the boat.
The preliminary investigation is being carried out by the Port Authority of Samos.
