Russian naval forces have repelled a drone attack in Sevastopol Bay, where the Black Sea Fleet is based, on the Crimean peninsula illegally annexed in 2014, Russia’s designated leader in the area said on Saturday, Reuters reported.

“Ships of the Black Sea Fleet repelled an attack by drones in the waters of the Sevastopol Bay,” said Sevastopol Governor Mykhailo Razvozhaev on his Telegram channel.

“Nothing was hurt in the city. We are keeping calm. The situation is under control.”

Local authorities reported that ferries and boats temporarily stopped crossing the Sevastopol Bay.

Sevastopol is the largest city in Crimea, which Russia annexed to Ukraine in 2014.

Crimea was annexed to the Russian Empire in the 18th century and later was part of Russia in the Soviet Union until 1954, when it was ceded to the Ukrainian Soviet Republic by Nikita Khrushchev.
