Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi on Friday cast doubt on Russia’s announcement that it had ended its partial mobilization, saying the poor performance of pro-Moscow forces meant more people might be needed, Reuters reported.
Earlier, Russian Defense Minister Serhii Shoigu announced the completion of the mobilization of 300,000 reservists to fight in Ukraine.
“We have information that the enemy has completed the mobilization, it seems that there is no need to send new waves of Russian citizens to the front. We feel very differently on the front line,” Zelenskyy said in a video speech.
“Even if Russia tries to increase pressure on our positions with the help of conscripts, they are so poorly trained and equipped, so brutally used by their command, that it allows us to assume that very soon Russia may need a new wave of people to send. to war,” the Ukrainian president also said.
Shoigu informed Vladimir Putin that there are already 82,000 mobilized conscripts in the conflict zone, of which 41,000 are assigned to their units, and another 218,000 are in training.
He said that in the future recruitment for participation in the Ukrainian campaign will be based on volunteers and professional soldiers, and not on the mobilization of several million Russian reservists.
The Russian president congratulated the “patriotism” of the mobilized.
“I want to thank everyone who joined the Russian army,” Putin said, thanking the mobilized reservists for “protecting” their country, homes and families.
